Surf camp Rio de Janeiro

Surf camp Rio de Janeiro is located in the small surf village of Saquarema, only 1.5 hours away from the city centre of Rio de Janeiro. The closeness to Rio makes airport transfer easy and gives you the opportunity to both surf and explore the mythic carnival city.

Once a small fishermans village today Saquarema is touted as the Brazilian “surf capital”. With intensive and year round consistent Atlantic swells, the surrounding coastline offer some of the best surfing conditions in all of South America. Operating in an area of 200 km of tropical white sand beaches and rock formations the surf camp can offer an incredible diversity of surf breaks, from small forgiving waves perfect for beginners to giant waves challenging for experienced surfers.

Besides world class surfing the area has lots of other things to offer. For adrenalin addicts: hang gliding, paragliding, rafting, kite surf and diving. For the nature lovers: trekking in cloud rain forest, swimming in waterfalls, horse back riding etc. Guests can also experience the Brazilian culture by trying Capoeira, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Samba or relaxing with local forms of Yoga and Massage (optionals).

This is without a doubt is one of the most beautiful regions of the country with awesome beaches, waterfalls, dunes, mountains and valleys covered by the Rain Forest, populations of migrating Humpback whales and other animals.

There are a few lively bars in Saquarema were surfers and travellers hang out, and there is always the possibility to catch a taxi to Cabo Frio, Búzios or Rio de Janeiro for some more hard core partying!

Both the air and water temperatures are amazing year round. In the summer (October to March) you can enjoy tropical waters with an average water temperature of 27º C and gentle waves of 1 to 8 ft. The winter season is slightly colder with average water temperatures of 23º C, but is also the best surf for experienced surfers with great swells (2-15 ft).
