Presentation
Surf camp Nicaragua
Surf camp Nicaragua is based in the small coastal village of Miramar, just south of the fishing town of Puerto Sandino on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, Central America.
Miramar is very secluded and is only reached by a dirt track from the village, passing large salt flats and countryside and is located on a peaceful beach, with a fun, gentle surf break just metres from the gate. A short walk down the beach in either direction will take you to a number of bigger and more challenging beach and point breaks.
The surf camp also has a boat moored in Puerto Sandino and can be used to reach the very best and uncrowded spots such as the legendary rivermouth break ‘Freight trains’ and the race A frames and crystal clear water of Salinas Grandes.
Just 45 minutes north east of the surf camp you can explore the colonial city of Leon which offers lively markets, bars and restaurants as well as other tours and activities. The capital of Managua (where we offer airport pick up) is less than 2 hours drive from the surf camp.
Nicaragua has a tropical climate with two seasons. During the dry season (January - June) there is virtually no rain. Once the rains come around June, July, everything starts growing and the yellow plants and leafless trees turn green and start blossoming. In August and September it often rains once a day. Fortunately, it just rains for a short period of time and these are often spectacular tropical downpours, which quickly fades out and are replaced by rainbows and sunshine.
Nicaragua is a swell magnet for south deep water swell and due to the huge Lake de Nicaragua effect, the wind blows offshore very regularly. Temperatures vary roughly between 72° F at night and 86° F at daytime (22° C - 30° C), so no need to use a wet suit.
Surf school
Learn how to surf
The surf school usually take place directly behind the surf house where the waves most of the time are perfect for learners and the bottom is sand covered with no rocks or reef. However the instructors choose the location of each lesson based on the wind, weather and wave conditions so numerous other locations can be used if needed.
Groups are kept small to allow for personalised instruction and the instructors will be right in the water catching waves with you rather than watching from the beach. We have a variety of surfboards to allow you to develop your surfing and we offer large screen video analysis to allow you to see what you are doing right and wrong! For improvers we have a number of slightly more challenging waves that are reached by 4x4 and by boat.
The following is included in the surf school package:
- Pick up / drop off at Managua Airport
- Accommodation at the surf camp in private rooms with A/C
- All surf equipment needed
- Surf lessons every day (20 hours per week)
- 3 meals per day - A wide variety of typical Nicaraguan and western style food prepared by our staff using the freshest available ingredients
- Unlimited tea, coffee, bottled water and snacks
- Transportation to local breaks by 4x4
- One session per week shot by surf photographer
- One video analysis session per week viewed on big screen projector
Surfari
Guided surf trips
Surfari is a great option for more experienced surfers. Every day there is a different swell, a different wind etc. This doesn't matter if you book a surfari with us. Everyday you will be transported to the best wave of the day, either in boat or by 4x4.
You will be accompanied by a local surf guide who will show you around, tell you about the spots and the best way to surf the break in safety. You will also get tips on surfing, being in the lineup, and explore more options for the whole duration of the day and the trip.
There is a variety of amazing waves to be explored, including uncrowded spots such as the legendary rivermouth break ‘Freight trains’ and the race A frames and crystal clear water of Salinas Grandes.
