Surf camp Natal, Brazil

Surf camp Natal is located at the pretty urban beach called Ponta Negra, 12 km south of Brasil’s “sun city” Natal. Natal is the capital of Rio Grande Norte, the northeasternmost state in Brazil blessed with amazing landscapes and a breathtaking coastline, with an average of 300 days of sun per year. Natal is surrounded by lovely beaches and great sand dunes wich can be toured on beach-buggy excursions (included for our guests).

Ponta Negra is a large beach break with lots of different spots along the beach. It is a nice place with warm water and mellow waves, ideal for beginners. This is where most of the surf classes are hold. The beach has a wide selection of bars and restaurants and a great atmosphere all year long.

For the more experinced surfers there are lots of challenging waves to be found along the coastline. Join a surfari and explore long and desert beachbreaks aswell as excellent reefbreaks every day of your stay.

The region offers great conditions for surfing all year along. The summer (November to March) is the best surf season with big swells coming from the North Atlantic creating big waves breaking on sandbars and reef breaks. The swell from the South Atlantic comes in winter also creating good surf conditions.

The Climate is tropic with a high atmospheric humidity and small variations in temperature (The avarage temperture is 27°C). It seldom rains and when it does it only rains for few hours.

The surf school holds classes at Ponta negra beach every Monday to Friday. The beach is ideal for beginners as well as intermediates.The closeness to the surf camp means that you are allways just a few minutes away from a great surf session.

Depending on your level of surfing, the surf instructors will guide and help you to improve your surfing skills. We guarantee that after one week of surf school the complete beginner will be able to surf and the experienced surfer will have improved greatly.

Surfari is a great option for the more experienced surfers. Every day there is a different swell, a different wind etc. This doesn't matter if you are doing a surfari with us. Every day you will be transported to the best wave of the day, no matter where that is on the coastline. You will be accompanied by a professional local surf guide, who will tell you all about the spots, how to get in and out, the currents, type of wave, etc. You will also receive feedback on how to improve your surfing skills.

There are lots of good surf spots to be explored both up and down the coast. To the north there are long and desert beachbreaks, while heading south there are excellent reefbreaks that can produce some of the best waves in the region. Near Natal the waves are more suited for beginners but on a perfect day you can surf some good tubes not so far from Ponta Negra beach.

The accommodation we offer is our surf hostel located on Ponta Negra Beach, just minutes away from the waves but also close all the principal tourist attactions of the city. Depending on your preferences we can offer you two different types of accommodation, standard or upgraded.

The standard accommodation is a dormitory kind of accomodation. You will get your own bed and a closet for your stuff but you will share bedroom, bathroom etc. with 3 to 4 other guests. This is a great option for lone travellers, giving you a perfect opportunity to meat new friends.

If you are travelling as a couple, we can also offer you a double room with private bathroom (upgraded accomodation). Breakfast is included for all the guests.

The surf hostel has a laid-back and friendly atmosphere. It contains a fully equiped kitchen a hammock area, a living room and a swimming pool. Relaxing between surf sessions is never a problem. You can chill out in a hammock, take dip in the pool or simply hang out at the bar, drinking caipirinhas.

Arrival to Natal is usually done trough the international airport of Natal Augusto Severo Airport (airport code: NAT), located 15 km soutwest of the city.

When you arrive at the airport a staff member will meet you and give you a ride to the surf camp. Upon departure you will get a ride back to the airport.

Since Natal is a high profile tourist destination you can usually find cheap charter flight tickets from many major European and American cities.

You can also catch a regular flight, either direct, our via the airports in Récife and Rio de Janeiro.Check with your local travel agency to find good deals from your hometown.

please be aware that most nationalities needs visa to get in to Brazil, so make sure you will have time to arrange this before you make your booking.
