Surf camp Mexico
Surf Camp Mexico is Located in Mexico’s pacific coast in the town of Sayulita with easy access to over 14 surf spots. Sayulita is 45 minutes drive from Puerto Vallarta, a big tourist destination, to which you can find direct flights from lots of cities in the US and Canada.
The area around Sayulita is great for beginner and intermediate surfers as the breaks are mainly point breaks with moderately powered waves. The surfing season is generally better in the winter (October – April), when north swells come and hit Sayulita enabling a point and a beach break right in town. Also the predominant wind directions during winter tend to create offshore wind for the surf spots in the Banderas bay, only 20 minutes drive from Sayulita. In the summer (June – September) the wave conditions are a bit more uncertain so it's not a good time for experienced surfers, and the temperatures can get really high.
A great advantage about the area is that due to its geographical positioning, no matter where the swell is coming from, if you are with an experienced guide, you will find a great wave to ride.
The town of Sayulita is a great laid back destination, which offers lots of restaurants, bars and outdoor activities. Everything is within walking distance and it still has the taste of an authentic Mexican coastal town. Winter (October to April) is the best season to visit this part of Mexico. It never rains, it is mostly sunny but not to hot. The mornings and afternoons can be a bit chilly but it warms up pretty fast. The water temperature is very convenient year round; all you need to surf is board shorts and a rashguard.
Surf school
Learn how to surf
The surf school usually holds lessons for beginners at the main beach break in Sayulita town. However the surf school is also completely mobile, taking students to different surf spots where they can experience different waves and work on their posture and turning.
Depending on your level of surfing, the surf instructors will guide you and help you to improve your surfing skills. As a goal for first timers, the focus is that guests will learn enough so that by the end of the first week they will be able to go out and surf by themselves.
For all surf lessons the surf school work with a maximum 1:4 instructor:guests ratio.
We guarantee that after one week of surf school the complete beginner will be able to surf and the experienced surfer will have improved greatly.
The following is included for students attending the surf school:
- Accommodation – Standard or upgraded
- 2-4 hour surf instruction/day, 6 days per week
- All surf equipment needed
- Transportation to different breaks with waves that are suitable for guests
Surfari
Guided surf trips
Surfari is a great option for experienced surfers. Every day there is a different swell, a different wind etc. This doesn't matter if you book a Surfari with us. Every day you will be accompanied by a professional local surf guide who will show you the best breaks of the region, places that just the locals know, taking you to discover new surf spots where you can enjoy perfect waves surrounded by beautiful untouched nature.
Everyday your surf guide will bring you to where the best waves are depending on daily conditions. There is always the option to do a surf trip to one of the 14 surf spots in the area in the morning and then surf right at Sayulita’s main break in the afternoon.
The surfaris offered is perfect for intermediate surfers who want to develop their surfing skills by experiencing lots of long easy rolling point breaks. There are also a couple of beach breaks with a bit more power for advanced surfers. However this location is not suitable for really advanced surfers who demand extreme waves.
Most of the breaks are a short drive from town, and they involve a 5-10 minute hike to get to the beach.
The following is included in the surfari
- Accommodation – Standard or upgraded
- 2-4 hour surfari/ day, 6 days per week
- All surf equipment needed
- Transportation to the best wave of the day

Arrival
How to get here
Arrival to the area is easily done via Puerto Vallarta's international airport (PVR).
Since Puerto Vallarta is a high profile tourist destination it is usually possible to find direct flights to Puerto Vallarta from several cities in USA and Canada. Another option is to change flights at Mexico City. Check with your local travel agency to find a good deal from your hometown.
When you arrive at the airport we can arrange for a private car picking you up. If you prefer you can also be picked up/ dropped of at Puerto Vallarta’s city centre or bus station (where bus connections to all mainland Mexico is offered).
Whether you prefer pick up at the airport or at Puerto Vallarta city centre , it’s only about 45 minute drive to the surf camp and the price is 65 USD per car (one-way). This i paid upon arrival at the surf camp.
Another (cheaper) options is to go by bus.To catch a bus from the airport you must leave the airport and cross over the Highway on the pedestrian bridge, the bus stop is right where you get off the bridge. The line serving Sayulita is COMPOSTELA and their buses are white and green. Look for the name "Sayulita" written on the windshield of the bus. The journey takes about 1.5 hours.
You can also catch the bus in Puerto Vallarta where the COMPOSTTELA line starts from Walmart down in Marina Vallarta.
Catching an ordinary taxi from PV airport can be a bit intimidating, but still possible. As you get out of the international arrivals area, there will be lots of taxi drivers trying to get your business. Prices vary depending on time of day and time of the year but you should aim not to pay more than 65 USD for the trip to Sayulita.
