Surf camp Ecuador

Surf camp Ecuador is located on the beautiful Ecuadorian coast in the chilled surf village of Montañita.

Montañita is one of the prime surf centres in Ecuador and has a really relaxed atmosphere. Besides world class surfing Montañita also offers beautiful beaches, great night life and price worthy restaurants with food from all over the world. Montañita is a famous party town. During the weekends a lot of Ecuadorians come here to enjoy the beach and the night life and once a month it gets extra crowded due to the traditional full moon party. At day time you can go horseback riding, scuba diving or snorkeling, fishing, whale watching or take a tour to a spa!

The area receives good waves and offer warm water surfing year round. In the summer season (January to May) a lot of north swells hit Ecuador and some of the best breaks, the ones that are facing north kick in at it’s best. Most days are wind free and glassy with hot weather meaning that there is no need for a wet suit. In winter (June to December) the big south swells hit the Ecuadorian coast and other breaks starts to work well, in these months the sunshine is less consistent and the water gets slightly colder meaning that you some surfers use thin wet suits.

The surf school usually holds classes at the beautiful beach break at Montañita which has excellent conditions for beginners and intermediate surfers. The classes are given by experienced instructors with life guarding skills. The instructors will be with you the whole class and we promise you a great time! Each instructor will teach a maximum of 2 students at the same time ensuring that you receive the full attention you need to develop your surfing skills.

• 4h surf classes (2 hours 2 times/day), every day of the week
• All surf equipment needed
• Board rental all day so that you can practise on your own after class
• Drinking water and snack during classes

Surfari is a great option for both intermediate and experienced surfers. If you don’t want to travel around too much but still surf good waves this is the thing for you. Every day we will take you surfing to different places around Montañita, from Playas in the South to Manta in the north. We come back to Montañita every night where you can enjoy the many nice restaurants and bars in the village and hang out with fellow surf campers.

Every day there is a different swell, different conditions and your surf guide knows where you will find the waves that fit your skill level. The guides are great surfers and have been surfing Ecuador for more than twenty years. You will travel safe in a comfortable car and surf the best waves in Ecuador every day.

There is a big variety of waves to be explored, including both reef breaks, point breaks and beach breaks. Major surf spots include La Punta in Montañita, Ayampe, Rio Chico and a lot of other places. Your guide also know a lot of “secret” spots where you can surf alone with your friends.

The accommodation we offer is a great deal. Depending on your preferences we can offer you two different types of accommodation, standard or upgraded.

The standard accommodation is a charming hostel located very close to the beach with five minutes walking to the main surf break and five minutes to the centre of Montañita village. The hostel has various sizes of rooms meaning that if you travel alone you will get a private single room and if you travel in a group you can share a larger room with your friends (max. 4 people/room). The rooms are modern and clean with a fan, mosquito net, safety box and private bathroom. The place is beautifully located and quiet with a garden and hammocks in the shade. Offered services include laundry, TV, Security 24 hours, shared kitchen and parking.

The upgraded accommodation is a great option if you prefer to stay in a more luxury place, ideal for couples. It is a neat hotel located next to the beach and the centre of the village. The rooms are comfortable and have private bathroom, a/c, fan and cable TV. The hotel is beautiful, clean and safe with a pool and a jacuzzi. There are hammocks and private terraces, which allows you to enjoy the beauty of the landscape and to have a privilege view of the sun set. There is also a restaurant and bar and laundry service and security 24 hours.

Arrival to the area is easy if you make sure you have your flight to Guayaquil (GYE), the biggest city in Ecuador. From Guayaquil you can reach Montañita in approx. 3 hours with taxi transfer or by bus. The taxi transfer is not included in the package prices but can be arranged by the local surf camp manager for the price of 90USD/car. There are six direct buses/day and you can also take one bus to Santa Elena, change buses and take another to Montañita.

There are a lot of international flights to Guayaquil from North America, Europe and Latin America. There are also flights and buses from Quito to Guayaquil. The bus ride last around seven hours. The easiest way to go to Montañita is to get to Guayaquil first.
