Surf camp Caribbean

Surf camp Caribbean is located in the Dominican Republic, near the city of Puerto Plata. The Dominican Republic is bang in the middle of the Caribbean and its location ensures a great climate, warm waves and a good consistent all year round swell.

The rugged North Coast has many reefs, beaches and rivermouths with quality waves and no crowds. In addition to the consistent Easterly trade swell, the North Coast catches Atlantic groundswell from Nov-April and hurricane surf season is best in September-October. The North Coast of the DR is warm, lush and inexpensive.

The surf camp offers an exclusive, quiet, simple and lush environment near Encuentro beach. It is the perfect location for newcomers looking to discover what a tropical paradise this truly is. Although located on the countryside you can easily visit Puerto Plata or the local city of Cabarete with cheap public transportation.

In Puerto Plata you can visit the historic fort, Fuerte de San Felipe, and the Victorian gingerbread-like mansions from the late 1800's, located in the older part of the city. There is a 2 km boardwalk, or Malecón, lined with typical Dominican restaurants, where you can take a walk and enjoy views of the port and the Atlantic Ocean. Another popular attraction is the Brugal Rum Distillery, where you can join a guided tour and learn how the rum is made. You should also aim to visit Mount Isabel de Torres, the mountain located just behind Puerto Plata (reached with a cable car) which will provide you with spectacular views of the city and surround area.

Cabarete is a world wide famous town for windsurfers and kitesurfers, and lately, the North Coast, is being recognized as the ultimate surf destination in the Caribbean in the winter swell season. It is a small cozy beach town, which has many surf shops, beach bars, restaurants and an exhilarating nightlife.

The climate of the region is tropical meaning that this paradise island is blessed with warm weather and sunshine for the majority of times along with beautiful waterfalls, natural lakes and excellent deep sea fishing. Canopy Tours, Diving, Horseback Riding, Kite Surfing and Hammocking make a well rounded island adventure. The wet season goes from May to November and is characterized by showers alternating with hours of sunshine. The tropical situation of the Caribbean Sea, helps to keep the water warm all year around, reaching temperatures as high as 90ºF/ 30 ºC.
