Surf camp Algarve, Portugal

Surf camp Algarve is located in the beautiful Vincenta National Park in the Algarve region in southern Portugal.

Located at the southwestern point of Portugal, the area receives a consistent Atlantic swell year round, making it one of the best places in the world for surfing. There are lots of lovely white sandy beaches, perfect for beginners, as well as challenging point breaks and reef breaks for the more experienced surfers to be explored.

The surf lodge is located just minutes away from Arrifana beach which is reputed to be the finest beach in all of Portugal. Other beaches within short proximity of the lodge include Monte Clerigo, Amoreira, and Praia De Canal. Just a short drive away is the historical town of Aljezur, with its great local restaurants and fresh food markets. If you’re looking for local entertainment there is a great Portuguese bar directly opposite the surf camp that has all the local brews on tap and weekly entertainment. Also directly opposite the camp is a great patisserie where you can sample Portuguese pastry delights.

Algarve has a hot Mediterranean climate and receives the greatest number of sunny days per year in all of Europe. In the summer months (July, August and September) the air temperature usually stays between 25ºC and 32ºC. In the winter months (December, January & February) it is colder (around 13 ºC) and sometimes rains, but it is rare to persist for longer periods. In the spring and autumn the temperatures stays around 22ºC, with mild winds and usually sunny days.

The surf school takes place on Arrifana, Amoreira or Monte Clerigo beach depending on where the best conditions are on the given day. All the beaches are within 5 - 10 minutes of the surf lodge making it possible to surf at several locations during your stay.

The surf camp supplies all the equipment, transport, great food and drinks, and great surf tuition. Groups are always kept to a maximum of 8 people per session so everyone will get a chance at one to one tuition. All surf instructors are BSA qualified and are certified lifeguards.

We guarantee that after one week of surf school the complete beginner will be able to surf and the experienced surfer will have improved greatly. Since lessons are held Monday-Friday arrivals should be during the weekend. This is also the only days we will arrange pick up.

The surf school package includes:

• 5 Evening Meals (on Sat & Sun you have the option to dine out or cook a meal using our kitchen facilities)
• Pick up/drop off at Lagos on arrival and departure

If you have arranged your own accommodation, you can also book surf school only. This includes 4 hours of surf lessons, pick up at your hotel in the Lagos area and all surf equipment needed.

Surfari is a great option for the experienced surfer. You will stay in the surf lodge located right by Arrifana beach and wherever the best waves are breaking is where you will head for the day!

With an array of great beach and reef breaks to choose from and an on hand surf guide to take you to all the best breaks, all the hard work is done for you, all you have to worry about is catching the ultimate waves!

There are four great beaches within 10 min drive form the surf lodge including Arrifana, Monte Clerigo, Amoreira, and Praia De Canal. The majority of these breaks are beach breaks but if you prefer reef breaks, the Kangaroo Point located at Arrifana harbor is an ideal wave for you. There is also a whole coastline of breaks to explore within a 30 km radius and what perfect way to surf these breaks than with an on hand surf guide! The surfari only operates from October - March when the swell is at it's best. This ensures you will be surfing the best possible waves during your stay!

The accommodation we offer is a spacious surf lodge with a very homely feel. Depending on your preferences we can offer you two types of accommodation, standard or upgraded.

The standard accommodation means that you will share a larger bunkroom with other surfers at the camp (max 6 guest per room). The upgraded accommodation alternative means you will get a private double or twin room and can only be booked by groups of at least 2 people. A private en-suite double room is also available in our sister lodge that is ideal for couples. The accommodation also has a pool that guests can use.

In total the surf lodge has 3 large bedrooms (including a double room, twin room and one bunkroom) and 3 full full bathrooms. The lodge never has more than 10 guests at a time and this ensures that you will not have to share a room with many other guests.

Starting from this year there is also a private en-suite double room available in our sister lodge that is ideal for couples. This accommodation also has a pool that guests can use.

There is a shared open lounge and kitchen area for all guests to use where you can help yourself to unlimited tea, coffee, & soft drinks. The house is WiFi enabled and guests are more than welcome to use the computer, play DVDs, or just lounge on one of our two huge terraces where breakfast and dinner are served.

The surf camp also offers “accommodation only” for those that have their own agenda.

Arrival at the Algarve region is easily done by air. The regional capital, Faro (airport code: FAO), has airline links with all major European cities. Cheap flights can be found with Thompsonfly, Ryanair and several regular companies.

The transport company Shuttle Direct offer airport transfers between Faro airport and Lagos, which can be booked online for 55 EUR return (about a 1 hour ride one way).Upon arrival in Lagos a staff member will meet you and give you a ride to the surf camp (free of charge). Upon departure you will get a ride back to Lagos to catch the airport transfer.

We can also offer private airport transfers for 90 EUR per vehicle each way (max 4 per vehicle). The private airport transfer fees are paid upon arrival at the surf camp.

It is approximately 1hr and 15 min drive by car to the lodge from the airport. When using the transport company to Lagos the trip will be slightly longer due to more stops etc.
